Prof. Adeodato has 40 years of professional experience. With an uncommon profile, he mixes features of an academic researcher with those of an entrepreneur. He has been a federal tenure-track professor at Centro de Informática-UFPE for 26 years, engaged in research on Decision Support Systems, Data Mining, Knowledge Engineering, and Entrepreneurship. Paulo got his BSc degree in Electronics Engineering (1982), his MBA in Production Engineering (1989), his MSc in computer Science (1991) all at UFPE and his PhD in Mathematics (1997) at King´s College London. Paulo started his career in industry as Production Engineer at DigiRede (Leading Computer Manufacturer in Brazil) and became Quality Manager. Later, he worked as Telecom Consultant at CHESF (Power generation) and, after his PhD degree, became a Professor at UFPE (1997). He has published dozens of journal and conference papers on data mining and time series forecasting and has supervised 10 PhD theses and 19 MSc dissertations. In 2018, he was a visiting professor at Stanford School of Medicine with one project to help prevent burnout of health care professionals and another to help select the medical residents. In 2017, he was a visiting scholar at Stanford?s Graduate School of Education engaged in a project for applying big data analytics to open access data for helping validate and propose public policies for education in Brazil. In business, Paulo was Founder and Partner of NeuroTech S.A. which has just been sold to B3 in a billionaire deal (https://worldheraldnews.com/economy/265497.html). He was Neurotech?s innovation and strategy coordinator for 13 years, a period when the company had an outstanding average revenue growth of 50% per year. Paulo innovated defining the business focus on binary decision (2000), creating a B2B business model with recurrent revenue based on the clients? additional profit (2003) and, for benchmarking, led the company to win awards in international competitions on Data Mining (2007) and on Time Series Forecasting (2007 and 2012). In 2013, Paulo led the company to win the FINEP Innovation Award in Northeast-Brazil. Paulo has organized competitions in PAKDD Conferences in Bangkok (2009) and Hyderabad (2010). He pioneered creating the first data mining course in Brazil (1999) and has developed with his teams over 400 data mining solutions for actual applications, around 100 of them deployed in companies in Brazil. Expert in financial applications of data mining, after taking the company to self-sustainability, he devoted his research to social applications, mostly in Education, Medicine, and social networks, from DM solutions to theory, focused on explainable AI (X-AI). Paulo has been a researcher in projects sponsored by Brazilian and international funding agencies. He is the coordinator of the Brazilian team in the project EVIDENCE led by the University of Salamanca with EC funding for assessing inequities in education in IberoAmerican countries based on OECD?s PISA data. Paulo was a researcher in the SWAMP project for developing an Intelligent Irrigation System to optimize irrigation, water distribution and consumption for Brazil-EC (2017-2020). He had carried out a Canadian-Brazilian project involving NeuroTech, CIn-UFPE, Ottawa+Dalhousie Universities and GSTS for developing an Intelligent Vessel Traffic Monitoring System as product (2013-2015). He has been the principal investigator in 10 other sponsored projects in energy, finances, auditing, and education. He was a member of the IT Strategic Committee of AmCham-Recife and has been a committee member for the TECNOVA program for funding innovation in Brazil. He has given talks on high-tech innovation for Brazilian universities and for IEEE in Silicon Valley. He was a member of the IEEE Industry Liaison Committee (2015-2018). At UFPE, Paulo was a member of the Student Retention and Dropout Committee for educational policies (2012-2019).
