The Base Nacional Comum Curricular (Brazilian Common Core) was approved by the Conselho Nacional de Educação last week in Brasilia.
In “Formar Professor é Fundamental para Implementar a Base” (‘Teacher training is key to implement the Base'), Professor and Director David Plank talks to Renata Cafardo from the O Estado de São Paulo.

“The Base Nacional Comum Curricular approval, last Friday, could be an opportunity for Brazil to invest in the training of its teachers. This is what Stanford University researcher David Plank thinks, studying the Brazilian document compared to the Common Core, a similar standard that has been in place in the United States since 2010.
However, according to the expert, the Base will only reach the classroom if there is financial support from the federal government for teacher training programs, especially for poorer states and municipalities. "Approving the Base is a great victory for Brazil, a lot of time has been dedicated (to its development), there have been many discussions to get it to this point, but it is now that the hard work begins," he says.
Plank is an American, formerly a professor at the Federal University of Bahia and currently directs the Lemann Center, a (research) center funded by the Lemann Foundation in Stanford.”

"A aprovação da Base Nacional Comum Curricular, na última sexta-feira, pode ser uma oportunidade para que, finalmente, o Brasil invista na formação dos seus professores. É o que pensa o pesquisador da Universidade de Stanford, David Plank, que estuda o documento brasileiro em comparação ao Common Core, norma semelhante que está em vigor nos Estados Unidos desde 2010.
Mas, para o especialista, a Base só vai chegar às salas de aula se houver apoio financeiro do governo federal para os programas de treinamento dos professores, principalmente para os Estados e municípios mais pobres. “Aprovar a Base é uma grande vitória para o Brasil, dedicou-se muito tempo, foram muitas discussões para se chegar a isso, mas agora é que o trabalho duro começa”, diz.
Plank é americano, já foi professor da Universidade Federal da Bahia e atualmente dirige o Lemann Center, centro financiado pela Fundação Lemann em Stanford."
