Educational trajectories of high school students from Brazil’s Federal Network of Vocational, Scientific, and Technological Education: evidence from the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte

About the presentation

This research aims to understand the school trajectories of students who enrolled in 2023 in the integrated high school vocational programs of Brazil’s Federal Network in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte. The study investigates the pedagogical profile of these institutions, the students’ educational choices, and how their trajectories relate to structural inequalities and educational opportunities. The analysis combines institutional documents and data from the  School Census, accessed securely through the Protected Data Access Service (Sedap) of the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP), which makes it possible to reconstruct students’ educational pathways. In doing so, the research seeks to reveal the factors influencing students’ decisions and to contribute to the debate on the dynamics of the school market and the role of the Federal Network in shaping educational trajectories.
