Accountability and Communication
Date:
Tuesday, October 22, 2024 - 9:00am to 10:15am
Quarter:
Fall 2024
Location:
CERAS 107
In this talk, there will be a discussion about recent research on electoral accountability and the role of providing information to voters. The plan is to go through the empirical literature that emerged in the past years and its shortcomings, including examples from Brazil. Then, there will be a discussion about the overall framework in order to think about accountability and the role of communication in accountability (e.g., agents often engage in “blame shifting”). Briefly there will be a presentation about a study design piloted in the 2024 local elections, and then a discussion about the potential future projects in the context of education. He is looking for feedback on whether field experiment projects on accountability in education seem to be viable in the context of Brazilian education.
