Tatiana Chirkina, research intern at the NRU Higher School of Economics (Moscow). Her research focuses on socio-economic inequality in education. In particular, she is interested in factors that enhance the chances of students with disadvantaged background to show high academic performance as well as their educational trajectories after school graduation. In one line of research, she investigates how students make an educational choice after middle and high school graduation in Russia. Based on longitudinal studies “Trajectories in Education and Careers” she compares the role of family, school and individual factor in the choice of the educational trajectory. Another line of research focuses on the factors of resilience. She studies how students with low socio-economic status can achieve high academic performance in the international student assessments (such as TIMSS and PISA). She is also interested in the educational trajectories of these students after the school graduation and comparison the role of TIMSS and PISA high achievements in the educational choice.
