
Dr. Portella's presentation will focus on evaluating patterns of racial inequality in Brazil, considering years of studies and performance in standardized tests. In addition, it tries to understand the main determinants of long-term trends.
Bio: Alysson Portella, Ph.D. is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Center for Racial Studies at Insper. His research interests include Economics of Education, Labor Economics, Inequality and Racial Discrimination. In his latest book "Numeros da Discriminacao Racial: Desenvolvimento Humano, Equidade e Politicas Publicas", alongside Michael Franca, they bring analyses on the articulations of racial discrimination in Brazil from the perspective of the economy. The research presents formulations and provocations based on data and empirical analyses, which point to the origin and manifestation of racial discrimination in Brazil based on indices such as income, labor market, education, health, economic development and political representation. In addition, they emphasize the urgency of new possibilities for public policies to create a more just and equitable society.
