Attending daycare programs influences socioemotional development? Evidence from Brazil
This study intends to understand how participating in daycare programs influences non-cognitive skills development. In Brazil we have a governmental goal that by 2024 fifty percent of children must be enrolled in daycares, hence it is important to understand how former daycares are influencing individuals lives. To this end, I analyze data from Sertãozinho, a municipality of São Paulo state, and data from Ceará state, both in Brazil. My results suggest that attending daycare has a consistent positive and significant result in extraversion personality trait. Although literature has no results showing that this trait is monotonically related with student achievements, it has some evidence that it is related with school dropouts.
