Amidst a scenario of debates and exchange of experiences, the International Seminar on Learning Management, held in Madrid (Spain), reaches its last day with Education secretaries dedicating time to a critical evaluation of the event. Under the central theme of promoting innovative practices and academic development, educational managers from the Ministry of Education (MEC), states, and municipalities of Brazil engaged in discussions to improve the country's educational system.
The seminar was the result of a cooperation agreement between the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science, and Culture (OEI), and the International University of La Rioja (UNIR). The objective was to promote an exchange of international experiences and seek innovative solutions jointly.
In Madrid, managers were able to hear from, among others, experts David Plank and Eric Bettinger from the Lemann Center for Education. They addressed a series of crucial issues for school performance, from capacity and motivation within educational institutions to the losses caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Topics such as teacher appreciation and training, school leadership, and flaws in the evaluation system were also addressed.
In addition to lectures and panels, participants also had the opportunity to experience practical experiences by visiting educational institutions in Madrid, such as the San Isidro and San Mateo schools. These visits provided reflections on local practices and inspired new ideas for the Brazilian reality.
