This seminar focuses on the implications of Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Programs on access to education in Latin American countries. The former Vice-Minister of Social Development in Brazil and main researcher of these programs, Rômulo Paes de Sousa, will talk about the Bolsa Família program and its potentials as an effective education policy. The former president of Peru Alejandro Toledo will discuss the challenges and outcomes of the program Juntos on Peruvian education. The debate will be coordinated by the Stanford professor, Eric Bettinger.
The seminar is organized by the Working Group Current Trends in Brazilian Education. The event, held on June 2, is part of a series of workshops sponsored by the Center for Latin American Studies and the Lemann Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Brazilian Education, both at Stanford University.
